Policosanols are long-chained alcohols that are part of the wax-like material in plants and seeds. In supplement form, Policosanol is extracted from the coating of sugar cane, Saccharum officinarum. Cuban-based research suggests Policosanol may help lower cholesterol. However, all studies outside of Cuba have failed to confirm these findings.
