The term "community member" refers to someone who has completed the New Member Signup form and has met all membership requirements, including the payment of a membership fee, if applicable.
A community does not have to allow people to join. The community owner has complete control over the number of members and the manner through which people become members. Sometimes, the only member is the community's owner.
The term "community members" does not refer to subscribers to email lists, or users of any of the community's services, even if they are registered users. There is no limitation on the number of "users" or "registered users" of a community's services (e.g. chat room, discussion forum) and people who are not members may use them - if the owner allows it.
If allowed, non-members may visit a community and use most all of the community's services without limitation or additional cost to the owner. Exceptions are those services and/or features the owner has specifically designated as members-only, or those that are especially designed to be used by members only.
Of course, a community may be configured so only members are allowed in, and only members may use any of the community's features or web tools. This is known as a "restricted" community and is the most common type of community hosted by WebHelps.
Community members receive several free services with their membership, including a 10mb web site with a Site Maker, email/webmail and instant messaging accounts, online address book, and an online photo album. Visitors/users do not get any of the free services. The community's owner may choose to give these services away as incentives to join the community.
The subscription fee charged for the Online Community Package depends upon how many members are allowed to join the community. This is called the "Population Limit." The owner is included in the total membership. An online community's population limit may be upgraded at any time.
