LISTSERV® CUSTOM DOMAIN EXTRA
|
|
| Use your domain or subdomain with all your LISTSERV® Lists! |
| LISTSERV® Domain IP Extra |
| Your custom LISTSERV® domain is setup to send/receive mail on a dedicated IP address. Without this Extra, your custom domain will be setup as a virtual domain on the web server's general IP, which is shared by many other LISTSERV Lists. Having your own dedicated IP will allow you to participate in AOL's Whitelist. Additionally, should the general IP get blacklisted due to spamming activity by other lists, your lists will not be affected. |
A free domain is included with your subscription to any Specialty Package. During signup, you will choose how to use your free domain. You may select to use it with your LISTSERV® Lists. The information on this page applies only to using a domain or subdomain other than the free domain.
You may use your domain with all your LISTSERV® lists. If you elect to archive list emails, the URL (link) to your LISTSERV® List Archives will use also use your domain.
Unlike most companies offering this service, we charge only a one-time setup fee of $10.00 (rather than an ongoing fee). |
| YOUR INSTRUCTIONS |
| OPTION A: You *must* follow steps 1-3 below, if your domain (e.g. yourdomain.com) is being used in any way. If your domain is NOT in use, you may use either Option A or Option B. |
| 1. Contact your domain host's support department (usually where you registered your domain), or use the domain management forms provided by your domain host. |
| 2. Create a subdomain, such as lists.yourdomain.com, discuss.yourdomain.com, or newsletter.yourdomain.com. You may not use: listerv.yourdomain.com, as the word "listserv" is a registered trademark owned by LSoft. |
| 3. Point the subdomain hostname A record to 64.49.220.162. Do NOT create an MX record. |
| NOTE: This is the most common method for using your domain with your lists. |
| OPTION B: If your domain is NOT in use, you may follow Steps 1 and 2 below, or use Option A above, as you prefer: |
| 1. Contact your domain host's support department (usually where you registered your domain), or use the domain management forms provided by your domain host. |
| 2. Change your domain's Host Names (also called DNS or Name Servers) to: |
Host Name: ns.rackspace.com at IP Address: 207.235.16.2 (primary) Host Name: ns2.rackspace.com at IP Address: 207.71.44.121 (secondary) |
| Note: Eudora users will not be able to send mail to the list using your domain/subdomain, unless (a) they disable the SMTP check Eudora performs prior to sending an email [instructions]; or (b) you have added the LISTSERV® IP Extra. |
|
| We must manually setup your domain/subdomain on the server. Please plan on waiting 24 hours before you can use your domain/subdomain. Custom domain orders are completed in the order received. If you require expedited service, please submit a support ticket explaining your need. You may create your LISTSERV® List prior to receiving confirmation from the LISTSERV® Administrator that your domain/subdomain has been setup on our servers. The list can easily be configured to use your domain/subdomain after it has been created. |
| To easily check to make sure your domain/subdomain is pointed correctly and is using the correct name servers, go to NWTools.com, and perform a DNS query. |
